George Utz. Inc. to spend $40 million on new South Carolina factory
Georg Utz., Inc. announced February 11 that it would spend $40 million to build a new plastics packaging factory in South Carolina. According to a release from the South Carolina governor’s office, the subsidiary to the Swiss Utz Group’s new Sumter, South Carolina plant will take up 90,000 square feet and host 50 new jobs making rigid returnable packaging.
Company leadership said the new location, the company’s first in South Carolina, would help improve Georg Utz’s service delivery business.
According to the state government, South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development granted a $750,000 Closing Fund grant to the county to help pay for site improvements related to the new factory, which is expected to start production on rigid returnable packaging in 2028.
