The company will add 250 new jobs at its Charleroi plant and approximately 700 new jobs across the state.

GE Vernova has announced plans to expand its high-voltage switchgear manufacturing facility in Charleroi, Pennsylvania. The company, which provides advanced grid solutions and energy technologies, is investing up to $100 million in the state and creating approximately 700 new jobs across multiple factories, including 250 at the Charleroi facility.

This expansion will support the production of critical components used in the stable and reliable operation of the U.S. electrical grid. The new investment builds on GE Vernova’s previously announced $600 million multi-year investment expected to create 1,500 jobs nationwide. The company’s technology currently supports more than half of the power generated in the United States, with operations spanning 18 manufacturing facilities and 50 states.

In addition to the Charleroi expansion, GE Vernova announced a secured order to provide seven 7HA.02 natural gas turbines to the Homer City Energy Campus, a 3,200-acre project that will generate up to 4.4GW of electricity to power a large-scale data center. The Homer City facility, once the largest coal plant in Pennsylvania, is expected to be operational in 2027 and will support growing AI and high-performance computing demands.

What people are saying

In a recent quote, Scott Strazik, CEO, GE Vernova, said, “Powering the grid is at the core of powering America’s economy. These new jobs and investment reflect our ongoing commitment to not only building critical grid infrastructure with American workers, but reindustrializing Pennsylvania’s proud manufacturing legacy. They will also help strengthen our domestic supply chain, improve national security, and boost global competitiveness by closing a crucial gap.”
