Hanjung America Corp. to build first US plant in Huntington, Indiana
State and city officials announced February 26 that Hanjung America Corp., a division of Hanjung NCS and automotive parts company based in South Korea, will build a new factory in Huntington, Indiana. The price of the new campus was not disclosed, but city and company officials said the site will eventually employ between 300-440 workers once fully staffed and that positions would make more than the county average wage of $28/hour. Hanjung plans to break ground on the site in April and start operations in June 2027.
The company produces parts used in energy storage systems, including cooling systems and fire suppression technologies used in electric vehicles. The safety systems made there will support the local Stellantis and Samsung SDI StarPlus Energy electric vehicle production in Kokomo, Indiana.
While it’s unclear how much Hanjung America is investing in the development, the company will receive $4.5 million in incentive-based tax credits from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, $400,000 in Hoosier Business Investment tax credits, and $200,000 in training grants based on the company’s undisclosed investment commitments and a commitment to create 500 jobs statewide.
