Sugar Foods to expand into new Indiana factory and distribution center
Sugar Foods LLC announced December 23 it would expand its operations into a new 617,000-square foot factory and distribution center in Whiteland, Indiana. The parent company of Fresh Gourmet, Concord Foods, and N’Joy brand products did not disclose how much the factory cost or how many new jobs it might house. In a company statement, Sugar Foods CEO Andrea Brule said the new site would expand the international food manufacturer’s footprint in the United States.
The expansion follows a November personal property tax abatement granted to Sugar Foods by the city. According to local news site the Daily Journal, the Whiteland Town Council granted a five-year tax abatement to Sugar Foods in on an estimated $25 million in equipment costs, while the company would continue to pay taxes on an estimated further $15.5 million in IT equipment and tenant improvements. The Journal reported the new site would employ 105 full-time employees with an average salary of $63,000.
In a statement, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun referenced his own past work in logistics and said a distribution center in his state was a win-win situation for Indiana and Sugar Foods.
