Aqua Membranes announced November 6 it would build its second manufacturing location in Knoxville, Tennessee. The $6.6 million factory will create 95 jobs, according to a statement from the Tennessee governor’s office.

The company, which has one manufacturing location at its headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico, produces reverse-osmosis membranes for purifying water used in food and beverages and wastewater remediation. On its website, Aqua Membranes notes that the filters are useful in industrial contexts like mining and semiconductor manufacturing, and improve on previous reverse osmosis filters by using patented spacers. According to the governor’s office, the new 200,000-square-foot factory will significantly improve Aqua Membranes’ production capacity.

What people are saying

“Tennessee is recognized nationwide for having one of the fastest-growing economies, driven by our pro-business climate and committed workforce,” said Gov. Bill Lee. “Today’s announcement reinforces why companies like Aqua Membranes continue to invest in the Volunteer State, and I look forward to the expanded opportunity these new jobs will bring to families throughout the Greater Knoxville region.”

“Opening our new 200,000-square-foot facility marks a major milestone for Aqua Membranes. It’s not just a sign of our growth — it’s a signal to the industry that we’re ready to scale,” said Craig Beckman, Aqua Membranes CEO. “With this expanded capacity, we can meet the demands of large customer contracts and deliver our technology to partners around the world looking for more sustainable, cost-effective water treatment solutions.”

“With strong leadership, sound infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce, Knoxville is primed to support Aqua Membranes’ second U.S. facility,” said TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter. “We realize companies always have a choice in where they choose to invest, and we stand ready to support this company’s growth and success in the years to come.”
