VFP Inc. announced November 4 that it would spend $35 million to build two new facilities at its location in Duffield, Virginia, in the western part of the state, and add 200 new jobs. The company produces structures for housing and protecting equipment out of concrete or lightweight metal, largely for utility providers, municipalities and broadband companies.

According to Scott File, VFP CEO, the new buildings will help the company expand its offerings for data centers and utility power companies, and a company statement said the buildings would double the site’s production capacity for metal and concrete structures.

The Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority is also supporting the expansion with a $312,500 workforce-development grant to VFP and a $3 million loan to the Scott County Economic Development Authority for purchasing equipment.

What people are saying

“This expansion will double production and strengthen our ability to serve the data center and utility power industries,” said Scott File, CEO of VFP. “Our success is built on the dedication of our employee-owners and the support of local and state partners.”

“For six decades, VFP has been a cornerstone of Virginia’s manufacturing strength and innovation,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “This growth in Scott County is proof that when businesses double down on Virginia, they grow, thrive, and create new opportunities for hardworking Virginians.”

“Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority is proud to continue supporting VFP’s growth in Duffield with a $312,500 workforce development grant and a $3 million loan to the Scott County Economic Development Authority for equipment acquisition as part of this expansion,” said VCEDA Executive Director Jonathan Belcher.
