BorgWarner Inc. announced October 28 that it would spend $74.9 million on a new factory in Hendersonville, North Carolina. In a statement from the governor’s office, the auto OEM said the new site would make 193 new jobs at the factory with an average annual salary of $78,628.

The 220,000-square-foot site will be the company’s second in North Carolina after its existing production plant in Arden. The state helped attract BorgWarner to the area with a tax break of up to $1.8 million over 12 years, based on the company’s compliance with agreed-upon investment and job targets.

The new site will build an unspecified “new industrial product” or “new technology” that company officials did not specify in statements. According to SEC filings, the company specializes in OEM parts for internal combustion, hybrid and electric vehicles, including those for improving vehicle performance, efficiency, stability and air quality.

“BorgWarner is proud to continue to invest in the state of North Carolina to bring an exciting new technology to market and provide jobs to local residents,” said Joseph F. Fadool, President and Chief Executive Officer, BorgWarner Inc. “We appreciate the grant and continued support from the state of North Carolina to expand our manufacturing footprint here in the United States.”

“BorgWarner could have chosen anywhere in the world for this new product line, but they chose to reinvest in North Carolina,” said N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. “Western North Carolina is recovering stronger every day, and companies looking to grow want to do so in places like Henderson County, where there is access to a strong talent pool, a solid supply chain, and an excellent quality of life.”
