Only 12 percent of all employed American engineers are women, according to the National Science Foundation. While this statistic might sound discouraging, some industry leaders are using it as a battle cry. Events like "Introduce a Girl to Engineering" are cropping up in plants across the country, and more teachers and industry professionals are working to get girls interested in STEM.
