About 200 employees are on the picket line in Palmyra, New York as of February 16 as members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 588  went on strike against Garlock Sealing for better wages and working conditions. The site makes gaskets, pipe seals, and joints.

A Saturday, February 14 post to the local union’s Facebook page declared shortly before 2 p.m. that the membership had voted to strike. According to local news source WHEC, the company and union have resumed negotiation as of Monday afternoon as the strike continues.

The latest strike comes about five years after the IAM Local 588 ratified a new four-year contract with Garlock in November 2021, ending a 3-day strike with what the IAM called “significant” wage increases, seven full paid sick days, 2% employer 401(k) contributions, and other contract improvements.
