Becton, Dickenson and Company announced January 13 that it would spend $110 million on expanding its production of prefillable syringes in Columbus, Nebraska, with an eye on accelerating supplies for GLP-1 anti-diabetes and obesity drug delivery. According to a company statement, the new expansion will create 120 jobs at the site.

The expansion will add two lines of BD’s Neopak-brand prefillable syringes in 1 milliliter and 2.25 milliliter sizing. The company says the syringes are compatible with a variety of formulas and delivery devices, including the autoinjectors used by Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs currently on the market. Expected supply of the syringes is expected to begin partway through the year.

The money will also support more general capacity improvements at the site, including enhanced cannula manufacturing.
