Stellantis invests $13 billion to expand vehicle manufacturing facilities in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana
Stellantis has announced plans to invest $13 billion to expand its vehicle manufacturing facilities in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
The company, which designs, engineers, manufactures, and sells vehicles and mobility solutions worldwide, will create more than 5,000 new jobs as part of this investment.
The $13 billion plan represents the largest single investment in Stellantis’ 100-year U.S. history. The project supports the launch of five new vehicles, production of a new four-cylinder engine, and enhancements at multiple assembly plants. The expansion will increase annual finished vehicle output by 50% and include 19 additional product updates through 2029.
In Illinois, Stellantis will invest more than $600 million to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant for production of the Jeep® Cherokee and Jeep Compass, expected to launch in 2027. This investment is anticipated to create about 3,300 jobs.
In Ohio, nearly $400 million will fund assembly of an all-new midsize truck at the Toledo Assembly Complex—home to the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator—creating more than 900 jobs. The company also plans to continue improving its Toledo operations, including technologies supporting local machining and vehicle production.
In Michigan, Stellantis will invest about $100 million to retool the Warren Truck Assembly Plant to produce a new range-extended EV and internal combustion engine large SUV beginning in 2028. Another $130 million will prepare the Detroit Assembly Complex – Jefferson for production of the next-generation Dodge Durango, expected in 2029. Together, these projects are expected to add more than 900 new jobs.
In Indiana, the company will invest over $100 million across several Kokomo facilities to produce the all-new GMET4 EVO four-cylinder engine beginning in 2026. The project will add more than 100 jobs, reinforcing the U.S. as the manufacturing base for this new powertrain.
Across all projects, Stellantis’ investment includes research, development, and supplier costs to execute its product strategy through 2029.
What people are saying
In a recent quote, Antonio Filosa, CEO and North America COO, Stellantis, said, “Accelerating growth in the U.S. has been a top priority since my first day. Success in America is not just good for Stellantis in the U.S. — it makes us stronger everywhere. ... This investment in the U.S. – the single largest in the Company’s history – will drive our growth, strengthen our manufacturing footprint and bring more American jobs to the states we call home.”
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said “this investment will anchor long-term economic growth, support local communities, and provide opportunities for workers and families who have historically been left behind. We’ve worked closely with Stellantis and local partners, like the United Auto Workers (UAW), to ensure this investment delivers real benefits to Illinois, including strong jobs, thriving communities, and a strengthened economy. Illinois is proving that when we partner with industry and invest in our people, we can lead the nation in innovation, economic growth, and high-quality manufacturing jobs.”
