Orbic Electronics Manufacturing invests $110M to expand electronics manufacturing facility in New York
Orbic Electronics Manufacturing has announced plans to expand its electronics manufacturing facility in Hauppauge, New York. The company, which produces a wide range of telecommunications and consumer electronics devices, has invested $110 million in the project and plans to create more than 1,000 new high-tech and skilled manufacturing jobs while retaining 66 existing positions.
The expansion will consolidate Orbic’s manufacturing and production operations from overseas locations in India and China to the company’s New York headquarters. The facility will total 144,500 square feet, comprising the renovation of a 69,500-square-foot building and the addition of a 75,000-square-foot structure. Located in the Hauppauge Industrial Park, the project benefits from proximity to major transportation networks, skilled labor, and the company's existing offices.
Once complete, the site will manufacture up to five million connected devices per year, including smartphones, tablets, wearables, and networking equipment. The facility will incorporate surface mount technology lines, automated testing stations, precision assembly lines, and cleanroom environments to support high-volume production. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2026.
Empire State Development is supporting the expansion with up to $10 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Tax Credits, as recommended by the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council.
To build a pipeline of skilled workers, Orbic will collaborate with Suffolk County Community College and Queensborough Community College to develop training programs in advanced electronics manufacturing, circuit board assembly, quality control, and testing procedures. These programs are intended to support Orbic's workforce needs and enhance Long Island’s capacity in advanced manufacturing.
