PI invests in new precision motion control manufacturing facility in Massachusetts
PI (Physik Instrumente) has announced plans to open a new production facility in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The company, which designs and manufactures high-precision motion control and nanopositioning equipment for the semiconductor, photonics, medical, and aerospace sectors, will consolidate and expand its operations with a 140,000-square-foot facility.
The Shrewsbury plant, scheduled to open in Fall 2025, will triple the combined space of PI’s current New England locations in Auburn, Hopkinton, and Nashua. The facility will manufacture a range of products including automation systems, air bearings, piezoelectric transducers, and nanopositioning components. By localizing production, the company seeks to reduce lead times, improve responsiveness to the U.S. market, and mitigate exposure to import tariffs and trade policy fluctuations.
The new facility will serve as a hub for engineering and product development, helping to meet growing demand while creating high-quality jobs in the greater Boston area. This expansion supports PI’s strategy of aligning production and customer support closer to its U.S. customer base.
