RBW EV Cars invests $8M to build electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Virginia
RBW EV Cars, a global manufacturer of British classic electric sports cars, has announced plans to build an $8 million electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Danville, Virginia. The facility, located in the Cane Creek Centre industrial park, spans 29,000 square feet and will serve as the central hub for RBW’s U.S. operations. The site will include assembly lines, sales and marketing departments, and operations for Spirit EV — the company's proprietary integrated electric vehicle platform. Spirit EV’s research and design, engineering, and EV build program teams will also operate from this facility.
Production will begin with left-hand drive versions of the RBW Roadster and GT, vehicles designed specifically for American drivers. Additional product development efforts and new vehicle announcements are scheduled for Fall 2025.
The Danville plant will be led by NASCAR veteran Peyton Sellers. RBW’s expansion to Virginia marks a key step in establishing a transatlantic presence, with R&D centers now in both the U.K. and U.S.
What people are saying
In a recent quote, Peter Swain, CEO, RBW EV Cars, said, "RBW EV Cars has dedicated nearly a decade to developing bespoke electric vehicles that honor classic British design while delivering cutting-edge electrification. From the beginning of its operation, the company has been focused on bringing a global EV platform to market that could transcend how automakers design and engineer their own platforms. This is where Spirit EV comes in. We will now have R&D facilities in both the U.K. and U.S."
Peyton Sellers, Director of U.S. Operations, added, "Creating a workforce for RBW EV Cars and Spirit EV here in Danville is our top priority. Breaking ground and preparing the city for its first major automotive player is exciting. We are not only generating jobs, but we are also creating a new automotive hub for the industry to lean in on. The proprietary EV platform Spirit EV has developed allows an automaker to literally plug and play, saving them millions in R&D."
