An explosion occurred at a Sherwin-Williams paint manufacturing plant near Dallas, Texas. The Associated Press is reporting that the incident caused a series of fireballs to shoot into the sky, shaking nearby homes and buildings.
Jim Norris, who lives near the plant, told NBC DFW 5, "I heard a loud boom, followed by multiple loud booms. I lost count at over 15. And big bellows of smoke from fireballs rising from the plant. Just right here at the corner you could feel the heat from the fire."
Dave Casper, who works near the plant, told Fox KDFW 4 that we was concerned about getting himself and his coworkers to safety. "I went right into reactive mode. Whenever you hear a blast or a disaster like that you just, your adrenaline kicks in, and you just take what you believe is the right thing to do every time. We’re probably 150 feet away from where the blast took place, so we’re not that far. The building is only about 50 feet on the other side of the fence from our location. So, there’s not much room between us."4
According to Reuters, one employee suffered minor injuries and had to be taken to the hospital. The employee was later discharged. CNN is reporting that production has been halted at the site and an environmental assessment will be conducted when it is safe to do so. The cause of the fire has not been identified.
