Food processor to pay $89K in back wages after failing to pay overtime to 49 employees

During an investigation conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, it was determined that Weston Mountain Onions was failing to properly pay its employees for overtime

During an investigation conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, it was determined that Weston Mountain Onions was failing to properly pay its employees for overtime. The Richland, Washington, onion processing facility violated the Fair Labor Standards Act and so will have to pay $44,736 in back wages and $44,736 in liquidated damages for 49 employees. 

In a recent quote, Wage and Hour Division District Director Thomas Silva said, “Workers have the right to be paid correctly for all the hours that they perform. We are committed to helping employers understand their obligations and responsibilities under federal labor law and urge them to take advantage of our services.”
