Since 2013, GM has invested more than $30.5 billion into its U.S. manufacturing and distribution facilities.
General Motors Co. has announced plans to invest $1 billion in two manufacturing plants in Flint, Michigan. Since 2013, GM has invested more than $30.5 billion into its U.S. manufacturing and distribution facilities. GM will spend $788 million at its Flint Assembly facility to expand the body shop, increase the general assembly conveyor, and purchase tooling and equipment. This will allow the plant to better assemble next-generation internal combustion engines (ICE) for heavy-duty trucks. GM will also invest $233 million into its Flint Metal Center, which will be used to procure new stamping dies. These dies will be used in the production of next-generation ICE HD trucks and to press refurbishments and new equipment.
In a recent quote, Gerald Johnson, executive vice president, Global Manufacturing and Sustainability, said, "Today we are announcing significant investments in Flint to strengthen our industry-leading full-size pickup business by preparing two plants to build the next-generation ICE HD trucks. These investments reflect our commitment to our loyal truck customers and the efforts of the dedicated employees of Flint Assembly and Flint Metal Center.”
