According to the 2023 ISG Smart Manufacturing Survey, manufacturers are seeing significantly higher levels of smart manufacturing success. Of the over 125 manufacturers surveyed, 71% said they are experiencing “anticipated results from smart manufacturing initiatives.” In 2022, only 37% of manufactures could make this claim. 81% of respondents, who cited productivity improvements, cost savings and supply chain resilience as indicators of smart manufacturing success, saw tangible improvements within 12 months. Despite this success, change management remains an obstacle for many manufacturers, with 58% of survey respondents listing it amongst their top three challenges.
In a recent quote, Gaurav Gupta, partner and global head of ISG Digital Engineering, said, “Smart manufacturing is both relatively new and decidedly successful. More than 60 percent of respondents to our study started a smart manufacturing initiative within the past four years, and those investments appear to be paying off, with more than 70 percent reporting success as measured by cost savings and the quality of manufacturing.”
