Bosch has announced plans to acquire TSI Semiconductor, a company that employs 250 workers and produces application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). Bosh will invest $1.5 billion into TSI’s Roseville, California, facility, which will manufacture silicon carbide chips on 200-millimeter wafers. According to Bosch, the merger will significantly extended its global portfolio of silicon carbide (SiC) chips by the end of 2030.
In a recent quote, Dr. Stefan Hartung, the chairman of the Bosch board of management, said, “With the acquisition of TSI Semiconductors, we are establishing manufacturing capacity for SiC chips in an important sales market while also increasing our semiconductor manufacturing, globally. The existing clean-room facilities and expert personnel in Roseville will allow us to manufacture SiC chips for electromobility on an even larger scale.”
In a recent statement, Vice President Kamala Harris said, “This $1.5 billion investment will bring down costs, strengthen our electric vehicle supply chain, help rebuild American manufacturing, and create economic opportunity for the working families of California. And it will put more electric vehicles on the road, a priority I have worked on since I served in the United States Senate. All of this was made possible by our Administration’s Investing in America agenda. Unfortunately, House Republicans are working to undo our progress. They want to defund American manufacturing and ship jobs overseas. President Biden and I will never let that happen.”
