Community college receives $500K grant to train students for a career in manufacturing

Ivy Tech Community College in Kokomo, Indiana, has received a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). This money will be used to create the Center of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing, which will train future workers for careers at local manufacturing facilities. An additional $500,000 will be provided by local funds, and the money will be used to provide industrial equipment like robots for trainees to use.

In a recent quote, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo said, “Ivy Tech has a terrific track record of successful trainee placement and the Center of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing will boost economic growth and good-paying jobs in the region. This EDA investment will ensure that manufacturers have the skilled talent they need and that good-paying jobs are available for all residents in North Central Indiana for decades to come.”
