The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will offer $50 million in funding for states to help small- and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) utilize smart manufacturing technologies and high-performance computing. The State Manufacturing Leadership Program, which is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is designed to aid manufacturers in overcoming barriers that prevent them from implementing data-driven tech and increasing production efficiency.
According to the DOE, states can use the funding to create new programs or expand existing programs that provide technical assistance to SMMs. The program will also connect SMMs with technical assistance providers, like the Manufacturing USA institutes, the National Laboratories, NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnerships, Industrial Assessment Centers, and institutions of higher education.
In a recent quote, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm said, “Unlocking the potential for small- and medium-sized clean energy manufacturing facilities to use the same technologies as larger facilities will make us more competitive on a global scale. This funding opportunity will ensure that the benefits of a clean energy economy are felt across the country.”
