The manufacturing industry is suffering from a lack of skilled workers. Whether it’s the inability to find top talent or losing workers to more flexible, rewarding careers, the industrial sector needs to prioritize worker training to combat these issues.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has just released a new infographic to help manufacturers respond to the growing skills gap. The infographic, called Training: Responding to the Skills Gap, illustrates how Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) centers can help companies solve their workforce woes through training.
In a recent blog post, Katie Rapp, writer/editor for NIST's Manufacturing Extension Partnership, wrote, “Why invest in current employees instead of looking to hire new people? It’s a sound business decision that costs less and results in higher productivity because new employees take an average of five to nine months to reach full productivity. For many manufacturers, retraining and upskilling existing employees creates an attractive work environment and increases retention.”
