Plant Services Editor-in-Chief Thomas Wilk attended the 23rd Annual ARC Industry Forum and photographed his journey.

At the 23rd Annual ARC Industry Forum in Orlando, Florida, attendees learned how digitizing factories, cities, and infrastructure can benefit technology end users and suppliers alike. Plant Services Editor-in-Chief Thomas Wilk attended the event and photographed his journey.

ARC Advisory Group welcomes attendees to the 2019 event!

The four-foot-tall schedule let everyone know that it would be a full week.

The annual press day event begins with HIMA’s Alexander Horsch discussing advances made to HIMA’s smart safety platform.

L+T Technology Services’ SK Chandra breaks down walks through best practices for collecting asset monitoring data.

L+T demonstrates how digital twin technology can help plant teams improve OEE and reduce inventory for a significant annual savings.

Gregory Bentley of Bentley Systems shows how their iTwin services can bring physical and virtual twins together, to more easily see which parts of plant DO and DON’T align between planned and built versions.

Bentley Systems also stated their support for open source environments, to foster analytics visibility and unlock the “dark data” that previously might only be accessible through a limited set of software.

Yokogawa's Satoru Kurosu shares his company’s goal of helping their customers realize 10%+ energy optimization, on both the demand (production) and supply (grid) side.

Kuroso shows the importance and value of energy-efficient plant operations, especially across the energy, chemical, and other process industries.

Bently Nevada's Kimberly Murphy launches the new Ranger Probe wireless sensor for condition monitoring.

The Ranger Probe is a dynamic triax vibration sensor that also measures temperature. The probe also some data pre-processing, organizing it into “data packets” for more efficient transmission over wireless.

AVEVA’s Craig Hayman launches the Edge-To-Enterprise IoT solution, reminding us that digitization “is not just a technical journey; this is a commercial journey” that needs to make business sense.

Honeywell’s Sam Wilson discusses why USB technology is one of the three most-common cyber-attack vectors inside the plant (only phishing attacks are more common), and the solution developed by Honeywell to combat USB-driven malware attacks.

ARC President and CEO Andy Chatha kicks off the event! (The double-size ballroom was standing room only, so please forgive the blurry photo taken from the back of the room.)

The keynote continues with Nihar Satapathy, Sr. VP at thyssenkrupp, discussing how digital transformation has facilitated new, more effcient business models for his organization.

Some of the ways that thyssenkrupp is leveraging the IoT to drive value for their customers.

The opening keynotes conclude with Larry Megan, Director for Praxair Digital, sharing how digitization has changed Praxair’s manufacturing operations, supply chains, and business processes.

Some of the core areas impacted at Praxair by Industry 4.0.

The Executive Panel following the keynotes focused on how to leverage new technologies and processes to transform their business and manufacturing operations.

The lunch area was a welcome change from all the snow which has kept the northern states busy shoveling and plowing this winter!

The lineup for one of my favorite panels at the event, How Digital Transformation Impacts the Workforce.

ARC Director of Research Michael Guilfoyle moderates the Workforce session.

If you feel left behind when it comes to digitization, know that you’ve got good company in the form of other organizations also trying to figure it out.

Jonathan Matthews, Head of Delivery for Ecosystem R2 Data Labs at Rolls-Royce, explains how Rolls-Royce positioned themselves for digital success.

Gary Chandler of QiO Technologies was a partner to Rolls-Royce on their digital journey.

Eugene Tung, Executive Director of Manufacturing IT for Merck, speaks at another favorite session, Digital Transformation and Smart Manufacturing: The Future Is Now!

Tung shares some of the data from his attest digital project for Merck.

The end-of-event celebration was sponsored by Microsoft and held as SeaWorld, where attendees got to meet various wildlife and touch stingrays.

Dolly the blue parrot makes an appearance at the party.

One of the SeaWorld penguins tries to figure out why all these people are there after penguin bedtime.

This was our host at the exit, wishing us a good night and hoping that we return in 2020 for the next ARC Industry Forum.
