All over in a flash

What would you do if you knew your world was about to end? By now you've most likely heard that Harold Camping is once again predicting the world is about to end and the rapture is upon us. Just like he did in 1994. What's the old saying about what to do if at first you don't succeed?

What would you do if you knew your world was about to end? By now you've most likely heard that Harold Camping is once again predicting the world is about to end and the rapture is upon us. Just like he did in 1994. What's the old saying about what to do if at first you don't succeed?

At any rate, if nothing else, Camping’s prophesy (yes, if he’s right, we’ll rightfully have to refer to him as a "prophet" for the rest of our lives) made me think about what it would be like to have the rug pulled out from under you abruptly. Game over. End of story. That’s all, folks.

And yet that happens to maintenance personnel on an all-too-frequent basis with arc flash. I’m sure you’ve all seen the videos before of arc flash incidents, but just in case you haven’t, here’s one that does it justice (my apologies to the family of the individual who is vaporized so quickly he didn’t even have time to consider his fate): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6Im7PLduwc.

Our first arc-flash educational webinar, which was hosted by OSHA’s Pat Ostrenga in late March, was well-attended and extremely enlightening. But if you missed it, we have two more webcasts planned on the topic, with Ostrenga leading both of them, as well. In the first webinar, we learned that nearly 300 workers are killed each year from contact with electrical current or as the result of injuries caused by fires and explosions related to electrical accidents.

Those aren’t rapture numbers, but try telling that to the families of those workers. You can register now for our upcoming arc-flash webcasts at http://webcast.streamlogics.com/audience/index.asp?eventid=40540712. If we’re both still here, be sure to say hello.
