Supplies at Work: ABB to engineer, procure and supply equipment for Sappi's Ngodwana mill
ABB (www.abb.com) has been awarded an electrification and instrumentation (E&I) and distributed control system (DCS) order by Sappi Southern Africa (www.sappi.com/regions/sa).
ABB will engineer, procure and supply equipment for Sappi’s Ngodwana mill in Nelspruit, South Africa. This scope forms part of Sappi’s Project Go Cell, which entails the expansion of the current mill for the production of chemical cellulose.
Among the products to be supplied are medium voltage switchgear, low voltage MCCs incorporating intelligent motor controls, Profibus intelligent instrumentation, variable speed drives and ABB’s 800xA control system.

Supplies at Work: 5 coal chemical sites in China to install Honeywell technology
Pucheng Clean Energy Chemical Company (PCEC) has selected Honeywell (www.honeywell.com) for a $5 million project to provide technology and expertise to help ensure that one of China’s largest methanol-to-olefins (MTO) and methanol-to-propylene (MTP) projects start on-time, safely and efficiently.
Once in full production, the Pucheng Coal Chemical Phase 1 Project will produce 0.7 million tons of olefins and 1.8 million tons of methanol annually. MTO technology facilitates production of high-value petrochemicals from abundantly available coal instead of petroleum or natural gas, and so reduces dependency on traditional crude sources.
PCEC has selected Honeywell’s Experion PKS, Safety Manager, Unisim Operator Training System and Field Device Manager for five coal chemical sites in China. As the main automation vendor, Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) will provide system configuration and site services for plant start-up and commissioning. It will also oversee the implementation of third-party systems integration and engineering.
