Welcome to Career Guide. Every week, we'll highlight a new job from our Plant Connection job board. This week's position is Wastewater Operator for CH2M HILL in Fort Irwin, California.

The Wastewater operator:

  • Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs to a wastewater treatment plant and/or conveyance system
  • Compiles and reports non-compliance with project policies and procedures
  • Diagnoses operating problems and performs or directs necessary corrective actions
  • Reads gauges and meters, starts/stops equipment and operates valves to route and control flow, makes process control adjustments, determines and sets proper chemical dosages and flow rates, and operates Process Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • Collects samples and performs laboratory tests and analyses on plant influent, effluent wastewater
  • Processes bio solids sludge in accordance with plant schedules and regulatory requirements
  • Enters data, prepares reports, and maintains records of plant operations
  • Inspects equipment to identify and perform needed maintenance and repairs
  • Records and enters data into computers, makes entries into plant logs, and prepares a variety of written reports
  • Assists with conducting meetings, tailgates and training sessions pertaining to safety, process control, etc.
  • Works safely and adheres to established safety procedures
  • Follows written and oral instructions
  • Ability to carry and respond to pages as requested by management
  • Ability and willingness to work on-call shifts, as requested, including being fit and able to respond to call-ins in a timely manner
