Is Santa on your radar this Christmas?

Dec. 22, 2015

If you want to know exactly where Saint Nick is on his long Christmas quest, all you have to do is check the radar.

With Christmas quickly approaching, children across the world wait patiently for the approach of Santa and his eight tiny reindeer. But if you want to know exactly where Saint Nick is on his long Christmas quest, all you have to do is check the radar. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has been tracking Santa's journey for 60 years now, and children of all ages can use the NORAD Santa Tracker or on the official NORAD Tracks Santa app to watch the magical voyage for themselves.

According to the NORAD Website. "The tradition began in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement misprinted the telephone number for children to call Santa. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief's operations "hotline." The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born."
