What do you do when your air conditioner breaks down?

What do you do when your air conditioner breaks down? Call a repair man? Try to turn your dog's tail into a fan? Build your own air conditioner from scratch? To my surprise, YouTube is littered with DIY videos of how to transform household items into air conditioners.

According to Popular Mechanics: "Air conditioning is a modern luxury that many of us take for granted, but it's not always feasible to set up an HVAC system in a room or to invest in a stand-alone AC unit. With a few household items and basic tools, you can build your own air-conditioner that can cool your room more than you might think."

Here is just one example of a home-made air conditioner.
