I love to recycle and upcycle items that have lost their original purpose. I enjoy walking through the neighborhood on garbage day, looking at the unwanted furnishing, knickknacks, and other assorted odds and ends littering the curbs, imagining a second life for each and every piece. This upcycling mentality extends to my own home. I’ve transformed plastic bags into yarn for crocheting, reimagined mismatched socks as colorful dog toys and even used broken pottery for mosaic pieces. I never thought, however, that a collection of HDPE plastic bottles could be shaped and sharpened into a Damascus knife. In a recent video, YouTuber Brothers Make demonstrates how to recycle plastic into a functional Damascus knife.
