TUSTIN, Calif., and Atlanta George Fischer Piping Systems, Tustin, Calif., and Rockwell Automation, Milwaukee, both recently received manufacturing excellence awards. George Fischer Piping Systems received a Texas Instruments (TI) 2002 Supplier Excellence Award, while Rockwell Automation's Dublin, Ga., manufacturing facility was named Manufacturer of the Year in the medium-size manufacturer category by the state of Georgia.
The TI Supplier Excellence Award, which is presented annually, honors firms whose dedication and commitment in supplying products and services meets TI's standards for excellence. TI evaluates suppliers based on their performance in the areas of cost, environmental responsibility, technology, responsiveness, assurance of supply and quality.
George Fischer Piping Systems was recognized for its performance as a supplier of high-purity piping systems and components for installations in TI plants.
"We take great pride in the fact that we are one of only 29 selected companies for the year 2002 from TI's total of over 31,000 suppliers," said Chris Blumer, president of George Fischer, Inc.
Rockwell Automation's Manufacturer of the Year award was presented during a ceremony at Atlanta's Cobb Galleria as part of the ninth annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week, organized by Georgians for Manufacturing.
The award is presented annually to a small (1-150 employees), a medium (151-750 employees) and a large (750+ employees) manufacturer within the state. Factors considered in selecting recipients include a company's corporate/community responsibility, economic impact and work force excellence. The business also must be in operation in Georgia for at least three years.
"It is our 365 employees' sum total commitment to excellence and their sense of ownership within our operation that led to this prestigious statewide recognition," said Robert Murphy, director of operations at the Dublin facility.
Presentations sought for manufacturing conference
MESA to hold annual conference September 2003
Chandler, Ariz.The Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association International (MESA) announced a call for presentations for its 2003 Annual Conference of the Americas, which will be held Sept. 7 through Sept. 10, 2003. The conference, titled "Achieving Business Success through Manufacturing Excellence," will focus on bringing practical value to decision-makers and practitioners of information systems for manufacturing businesses.
According to Chandler, Ariz.-based MESA, presentations will be conducted within two of the association's education programs its Manufacturing Excellence Awards and its Industry Solutions Presentations. The Manufacturing Excellence Awards program recognizes manufacturers in the areas of operational excellence, product leadership and customer intimacy. The Industry Solutions Presentations program will feature presentations that demonstrate different solution approaches to challenges manufacturers face.

Hydraulic Institute introduces e-learning program
Program focuses on centrifugal and vertical pump technology, hydraulics basics
PARSIPPANY, N.J. The Hydraulic Institute (HI) has introduced a comprehensive e-learning program for the pump industry titled "Centrifugal Pumps: Fundamentals, Design and Applications."
The computer-based training course, available on the Web or in CD-ROM format, addresses centrifugal and vertical pump technology and the basics of hydraulics. The program is suitable for pump users and manufacturers, engineers, contractors, specifiers and others involved with pumps and pumping systems.
"A growing demand for knowledge at all levels, the time constraints placed on an already over-extended work force and an accelerated use of the Internet all factored into our decision to initiate a project of this scope," said Robert K. Asdal, HI executive director. "This program also strengthens a commitment HI has made to introduce more educational information to its members and the user community at large."
