2003 schedule for Baldor workshops announced

Three-day classes to include information about company products, services
Baldor Electric Co. said it would hold a series of three-day education workshops about its products and services. The classes, which will be held throughout 2003, include "Understanding of Motor Fundamentals," "Fundamentals of Drives" and more.

According to Fort Smith, Ark.-based Baldor, the courses will feature question-and-answer sessions, homework and hands-on training to facilitate participant involvement.

Most of the classes, said Baldor, will be held at the company's headquarters. Other class locations include Baldor's generator facility in Oshkosh, Wis., and its large motor facility in the Charlotte, N.C., area.

Rockwell receives supplier award

Intel names Rockwell recipient of 2002 Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement award

Rockwell Automation was named a recipient of Intel Corp.'s 2002 Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI) award, Intel's highest honor for its suppliers. Milwaukee-based Rockwell received the award for its efforts in supplying Intel with SCADA software, PLCs, I/O, industrial networks and software and integration services.

"Intel is pleased to recognize Rockwell Automation for achieving the highest level of supplier performance for a second consecutive year," said Leon Cooley, manager of Intel's construction in New Mexico, Colorado and Texas. "This was achieved by Rockwell's focus on continuous improvement and commitment to lowering Intel's total cost of ownership. The company has delivered on key projects both in the United States and around the globe, while continuing to exceed our high expectations."

The SCQI awards are part of Intel's Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement program, which encourages Intel's key suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement.

HART Communication Foundation seeks award nominees

Winners to be recognized at ISA 2003

The HART Communication Foundation (HCF) said it is seeking candidates for its 2003 Plant of the Year award. HCF presents the award annually to recognize innovative use of HART communication in real-time industrial process plant applications.

"We are looking for real-time integration of diagnostics and multivariable implementations with control and information systems," said HCF Executive Director Ron Helson. "Our decision will be based on how well HART is utilizednot on the size of the installation."

Users can nominate themselves, or suppliers can recommend a plant for recognition, said Austin, Texas-based HCF. Nominations should include a brief description of how the plant uses HART communication to improve plant operations, better manage plant assets or support plant information needs. Background information and supporting materials are welcome but not required.

The winner will receive an award and recognition in the HART booth at the 2003 Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society's (ISA) Conference and Exhibition. The Plant of the Year and finalist awards will be presented at ISA 2003 on Oct. 21, 2003.
