The U.S. Solar Marker Insight Year-in-Review 2012 report by Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and GTM Research stated that states installed 8 more MW with 50 in 2012 than in 2011. In the top 10 Solar States, California takes the lead in the U.S. and 7th in the world for installing 1 GW in the year. Arizona took second beacuase of its utility-scale solar power plant installations. New Jersey huffed and puffed its way into third place with the surprising, yet reassuring statistic that it has more solar plants than tanning salons.
