Reduce air compressor energy consumption and maintenance costs by purifying oil

Compressed air is often referred to as the "fourth utility" and, like electricity, water and natural gas, is vital to most manufacturing facilities.

An ultra-fine particle filtration and ion-exchange acid adsorption system was installed on a rotary-screw air compressor at a large carpet-manufacturing plant. Data on fluid condition, pressure drop through the separator and maintenance labor was collected over a 2-1/2-year period. Compressor fluid life was extended by more than three times, separator life was extended by more than two and a half times, and energy consumption was reduced an estimated 3%. Total O&M savings from reduced fluid and separator usage, energy consumption, and maintenance labor exceeded $2,200 per year, yielding a 125% ROI and a payback of less than 10 months.
