  • Quick Start Videos: Compressor energy costs

Russell Evans, PMP, plant technical services manager at Owensboro Municipal Utilities, talks with Plant Services about controlling the energy costs of the reciprocating compressors at his facility in Kentucky. Because the compressors his plant uses were built in 1964, the cylinders create unique issues. Evans reveals how, despite the maintenance expense of servicing these compressors, the price of a new replacement compressor would far outweigh it. The plant conducts real-time condition monitoring in the form of heat rate studies and checking for abnormal temperature or pressure changes. Evans' relatively new reliability team aspires to create a proactive maintenance environment at the facility

  • Quick Start Videos: Compressor reliability

Doug Husen, mechanical team supervisor at Shell, talks with Plant Services about compressor reliability at his facility in Louisiana. Husen's plant has 14 large reciprocating compressors that are critical to operations. The plant's maintenance and reliability team already uses online temperature measurement and vibration measurement, but ultrasound technology is an efficient and readily available tool they might like to have. Husen also explains how plant maintenance can be a money saver, instead of an expense.
