Workforce worries keep Iowa manufacturers up at night

Iowa manufacturers say they are “constrained” by the available workforce in Iowa and it’s limiting their ability to grow.

“I’m passionate about being in manufacturing; it’s a great career,” says Lori Schaefer-Weaton, the president Agri-Industrial Plastics Company in Fairfield. “Our company, specifically, employs about 200 individuals and these are high-caliber, high-skilled individuals.”

Manufacturers have difficulty finding qualified Iowans to fill those jobs, however, and Schaefer-Weaton says that is “what keeps me up at night.”
