Amsted Rail Co. is on the hook for hefty penalties after federal investigators found employees at its Groveport facility were subject to safety and health hazards.

After a machine crushed a 60-year-old maintenance worker’s leg at Griffin Wheel, a railroad wheel maker and Amsted Rail subsidiary, Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigations found the manufacturer failed to prevent machines from moving during servicing and that workers were exposed to dangerous levels of silica.
