Perspective: GE could be the giant of IoT

GE has surreptitiously grown its revenue derived from software by 20% annually in the last four years to $6 billion today. CEO Jeff Immelt declared that GE needed to evolve into a software-and-analytics company lest its industrial products become mere commodities.

Immelt has set an ambitious target of $10 billion in software revenue by 2020, and GE plans to achieve this by tackling the industrial IoT head-on and introducing a new operating system called Predix.
