Embracing automation for helicopters

Confronting persistently high helicopter accident rates, manufacturers, parts makers and operators are increasingly embracing automation as the key to safety improvements.

The trend runs counter to airline pilot training, which in recent years has emphasized the importance of manual flying skills to cope with emergencies aboard jetliners that are steadily becoming more automated.
