Overall, growth in the sector slowed this year — save for automakers and others in the auto supply chain — due to a host of factors including low oil and gas prices, a strong dollar and soft demand globally.

But despite that economic environment, local manufacturers still made a good number of acquisitions in 2015. Cleveland-based TransDigm Group Inc. led the pack on this front, completing four acquisitions this year. Additionally, the aircraft parts maker in November announced its plans to buy Breeze-Eastern Corp. for more than $200 million.
