Chicago digital manufacturing institute awards first research contracts

The city's digital manufacturing institute has awarded its first round of research contracts as the organization tries to build a research portfolio that will reshape thousands of factories across the U.S.

The Chicago-based Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute said in a statement yesterday that five teams around the country will receive a total of $7 million to investigate a wide range of issues—from the intersection of cloud computing and machining to improving computer-aided design processes—and come up with solutions.
