The solution was to integrate 3d laser scanning technologies into our workflow to gather non-documented buildings, factories, and landscape. CMDS’s vast knowledge of the Food Manufacturing Industry, the companies niche service needed a faster means of as-building a non-documented facility. The process of laser scanning factories that have no drawings causes CMDS to acquire measurable data from a point cloud for the purpose of providing the client deliverable of a project design. The science is Metrology which includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement. The process of laser scanning is 10 times faster than traditional hand measuring technics using tape measure, laser range finder or story pole and transit / carpenters level. Another advantage of obtaining data with this method is a missed or forgotten measurement is virtually none existent. The scanner see’s everything in its’ line of sight that is measurable. The method produces millimeter accuracy which gives the ability for the design team to convey to the builder exactly what needs to be constructed. The result for CMDS is the design scope of 3d drawings produce tighter bids and gives them the ability to do turn-key projects at lower cost to the client.

Steve has more than 15 years’ experience with CAD and technology in the 3D Plant Layout and Design space. He has spent time as an AutoCAD administrator supporting research and development for 3D plant layout processes at General Motors and other large enterprises.
He has played a key role in the development, deployment, and training of new 3D Plant Layout processes. To this day many of the workflows are still considered state-of-the-art. Through this activity, many business issues were addressed that offered innovative ways to process and assemble 3D data for the manufacturing space. The latest area of activity for Steve has been laser scanning. The ability to share and use scan data has been a challenge for customers. Steve is deeply involved in changing the way point cloud data is utilized and processed for easy consumption of a larger user base.
