Hundreds of thousands of jobs were lost in the U.S. industrial manufacturing industry during the recession that wreaked havoc across the country during the past two years. Due to the economic uncertainty caused by the recession, companies were forced to take a hard look at their operations, which resulted in thousands of plant closures and staffing cutbacks. For the most part, the majority of the industry's cuts are finished, and companies are beginning to cautiously look at expanding operations again. As a result, the industrial manufacturing industry has 111 plants that are either in the planning or construction stages of development and are scheduled to begin production operations in 2011, which will lead to more than 24,800 jobs being created across the U.S. during the year.
