Geothermal lake project garners Contractor of the Year award

Jan 27, 2009

Mechanical Inc., a contracting firm in Freeport, Ill., has been named Contractor of the Year for 2008 by PHC News, a national trade journal for professional heating, plumbing and mechanical contractors.
In 2008, Mechanical Inc. installed the largest lake loop heat-pump system in the nation. The system, an example of green technology, was installed in a 15-acre geothermal lake, which will provide heating and cooling for the Sherman replacement hospital in Elgin, Ill. Sherman is the first hospital in Illinois to build a geothermal lake, and this green building project is projected to decrease the facility’s gas and electric costs by nearly $1 million annually.
In addition to Sherman Hospital, the company has worked on major hospital projects in Chicago, Rockford, Freeport, Peoria, Galena and the Chicago suburbs.
