ASHRAE Foundation launches fundraising campaign

Feb 09, 2005

The ASHRAE Foundation Board has launched its Expanding the Network of Knowledge endowment campaign. ASHRAE officially kicked off the endowment campaign during its 2005 Winter Meeting Feb. 5-9 by announcing early leadership gift pledge commitments of $500,000 from Carrier and $300,000 from Trane.

Through the Expanding the Network of Knowledge campaign, the ASHRAE Foundation is raising endowment funds to provide the financial support necessary to offer tailored educational programming necessary to ensure that HVAC&R professionals are prepared for what lies ahead. The campaign was a response to a vital need for increased funding for ASHRAE programs and projects.

“The Foundation’s recent success is a remarkable sign of the industry’s commitment to secure its own future,” Thomas Mikulina, chair of the ASHRAE Foundation, said. “All of the money raised in this campaign will go toward enhancing educational initiatives that will help to strengthen the HVAC&R industry for years to come.”

Both Carrier and Trane have a long history of support toward the ASHRAE Foundation.  Each company has made gifts totaling $800,000 during the past decade.

“Carrier is committed to our partnership with ASHRAE and its members,” Geraud Darnis, Carrier president, said. “The ASHRAE Learning Institute (ALI) and the important education it will sponsor will provide our employees and the industry as a whole with the critical information and knowledge to meet the challenges that lie ahead. We applaud the Foundation and this notable campaign, and we are honored to participate at this level.”

“The future focused education of ALI represents the single largest investment to help advance the HVAC&R industry,” Craig Kissel, Trane president, said. “Through the Expanding the Network of Knowledge campaign, the Foundation will expand its resources to better enhance ASHRAE programs for its members and the industry as a whole. We are honored to be part of this initiative and we believe that this campaign signals a new era between ASHRAE and its corporate partners.”

Other early campaign donors include: DuPont ($175,000), Honeywell ($100,000), Johnson Controls ($100,000), Rheem ($100,000), York ($100,000), Emerson Climate Technologies/Copeland ($75,000), Danfoss ($50,000), Desert Aire ($25,000), Nailor Industries ($25,000), and Baltimore Air Coil ($15,000).

“The Foundation’s fundraising success has been remarkable, but we still have a long way to go,” Mikulina said.

To date the campaign has raised $1,465,000. The Foundation has a goal to raise a minimum of $5 million.
