Thermostatic steam trap design proves highly efficient

Oct. 28, 2008
A series of tests using steam traps from multiple manufacturers, trap technologies and product models reveals which is most efficient.
Flowserve Gestra has completed a formal testing program, with test equipment certified by TÜV, to evaluate steam loss in Gestra Thermostatic Membrane Design steam traps. During the second quarter of 2008, a series of tests were conducted at the Flowserve Gestra facility located in Bremen, Germany, using steam traps from multiple manufacturers, trap technologies and product models. The tests were done in accordance with ASME PTC 39-2005 / ISO 7841 Test Method A (DIN EN 27 841). Each Flowserve Gestra and competitor steam trap was individually tested with pressures up to 261 pound-force per square inch gauge (psig) at multiple condensate loads. The Flowserve Gestra MK36/51 was confirmed to have zero steam loss throughout all test conditions. To find out more about the study, visit
