Knowledge Management (KM) is a process being adopted by companies to become more efficient and effective with the knowledge held within their organizations. The need for this can be seen daily, from issues dealing with people retention, the ever-increasing average age of operations and maintenance professionals, reinventing processes, and the pressure to do more with less. Technology now exists to support the KM process for Industrial Assets to improve asset management. Improvements come in the form of automated machinery health diagnosis, real-time notification of deviations in plant process variables, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This knowledge can then be shared across the plant or enterprise, using existing network, web, or email solutions.
