A redundant ring Ethernet switch, approved by Factory Mutual (FM) for operation in Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations, is now available from Weed Instrument of Round Rock, Texas.

The new EOTec 2104 Industrial Ethernet Ring Switch incorporates many of the features found in a managed Ethernet switch, but at a significantly lower cost. It is preconfigured for ring redundancy, offering virtual “plug-and-play” performance for quick and easy startup and commissioning. The switch utilizes self-healing ring topology, featuring the simplicity and ease of operation of an unmanaged switch while providing the benefits (i.e. port mirroring, broadcast storm protection, priority queuing, etc.) of a managed switch. In addition to offering a very fast recovery time (30ms + 5ms/hop), the switch allows for real-time data transfer with IEEE 802.3 Ethernet compliance.

Designed for critical industrial and process control applications, the standard operating temperature range of the switch is -40 to +85 °C.  It provides diagnostic outputs and incorporates two local and one global relay alarm contacts. Plug in expansion modules for additional copper/fiber ports and universal redundant power supplies of 120/240VAC, 125VDC and 24VDC are also available.
