Perpetuum microgenerator converts equipment vibration into electrical energy

Perpetuum is set to introduce its PMG17 microgenerator as well as announce its ISO9001:2000 certification. The accreditation means that customers can be assured of the company's commitment to the quality of its service and products, which are a key enabling technology for wireless sensing.

Perpetuum's energy harvesting microgenerators are being used to power additional sensing points for existing condition monitoring systems and make possible a wide range of new condition monitoring and Asset Management applications.

The PMG17 microgenerator converts the vibration of equipment running on mains frequency (50 or 60Hz) into electrical energy and can generate enough energy to power a wireless transmitter sending up to 6Kbytes of critical condition monitoring data every few minutes, or smaller amounts of data, several times a second. This eliminates the need for batteries and expensive wiring.
