Matrikon and ABB partner to make Matrikon's AlarmInsight product industrial IT enabled

ABB Inc. and Matrikon Inc. have announced that Matrikon's AlarmInsight for System 800xA has been Industrial IT Enabled and released for sale. AlarmInsight connects Matrikon's ProcessGuard and Alarm MOCCA to ABB's Extended Automation System 800xA,  providing System 800xA users with targeted, meaningful information from Matrikon's alarm management products.

"In our experience, sustaining an alarm management strategy is no easy task. Like many improvement program initiatives, it takes buy-in from various plant personnel such as management, engineering, maintenance and operations. These people are already inundated with crucial daily tasks and the last thing they need is more work," said Mik Marvan, Alarm Management Product Manager at Matrikon. "The answer is to make accessing and managing this information as painless as possible by incorporating the data into their existing work practices. Some of the main features of Matrikon's AlarmInsight for System 800xA include:

• A system extension that allows access to various ProcessGuard alarm analysis reports through System 800xA's plant, area, unit, and tag objects  
• Access to Alarm MOCCA management of change (for alarm parameters) reports.  Alarm cause, effect, and recommended action data is collected in Alarm MOCCA and, through AlarmInsight, can be accessed in System 800xA to assist operators in their decision making.  
• A combined System 800xA and ProcessGuard desktop trend (time based process data combined with alarms and events) for better root cause analysis at the desktop.

Matrikon's ProcessGuard will continue to retrieve alarms from other existing ABB and third party control systems. The Industrial IT Enabled AlarmInsight allows customers to enhance their current ABB control system investment, allowing them to realize improved operational reliability and plant safety in a sustainable way.

Industrial IT Enabled products ensure compliance with System 800xA's automation and information architecture. Industrial IT Enabled certification verifies plug and produce integration of value added 3rd party software and hardware with Extended Automation System 800xA.  In addition to Matrikon's AlarmInsight, certified integrations for SAP, IFS and MRO maintenance systems,  Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation, and others also enhance System 800xA's comprehensive plant management capabilities.
