MACTek Corporation has announced a family of wireless solutions that provide new options and alternatives for users to access information from their intelligent HART-enabled field devices.  MACTek's VIATOR Bluetooth Interface is the latest addition to its line of proven VIATOR PC modems, and the new family of VIATOR Wireless Adapters is for use in Wireless HART networks.  The Bluetooth Interface will be available in Q1 2007.  The Wireless Adapters will be released soon after the Wireless HART Standard is approved.

The VIATOR Bluetooth Interface is a point-to-point modem for temporary connection to HART-enabled field devices and will be ATEX and IS certified for use in hazardous areas.  The modem is powered by a rechargeable battery that can be used for 8-10 hours before recharging.  The PC host will use internal Bluetooth technology or a USB / Bluetooth converter to communicate with the Bluetooth modem.  The modem will physically attach to the HART field device and will be used primarily as a configuration management tool.  It will be fully HART compliant and registered with the HART Communication Foundation (HCF).  Working prototypes of the VIATOR Bluetooth Interface are on display in the HART booth #1916 at ISA EXPO 2006.

The VIATOR Comm-DTM software compliments the Bluetooth modem.  The DTM (Device Type Manager) will be available as a free download from the MACTek and the FDT websites.  The DTM provides device-specific information and functionality so that the Bluetooth modem can be fully integrated into FDT based host applications.

The VIATOR Wireless Adapters enable wired (existing) HART field devices to communicate with host applications by means of wireless technology.  Wireless adapters will be permanently mounted in the field, either closely coupled to the HART field device or at any convenient location on the loop. A wired HART field device retrofitted with a wireless adapter will simultaneously communicate over the existing wire and over the wireless network.  VIATOR Wireless Adapters draw power from the loop and will be ATEX and IS certified for use in hazardous areas.  Working prototypes of the VIATOR Wireless Adapters are part of the HCF Wireless Concept Display in the HART booth #1916 at ISA EXPO 2006.

“There will be high demand for Wireless HART Adapters especially during the introduction phase of Wireless HART as users retrofit the installed base of wired HART field devices” says Thomas Holmes, President of MACTek Corporation.  “The adaptor will retrofit wired HART field devices for 24/7 communication with control, engineering and asset management systems using Wireless HART. The adaptor also provides users with a low risk means of testing and evaluating Wireless HART in their plants.”

The Bluetooth modem and Wireless Adaptor will have the same reliability, quality design and ease of use as our VIATOR USB and RS232 HART PC modems.  Fully compliant with the HART communication specifications, our product family of wired and wireless solutions are easy to use – no configuration required – reliable and works with any HART-enabled device.  Visit www.mactekcorp.com for more information.
